About Us This is a family affair bead store! It is owned and operated by Eileen O’Brian-Tobaygo, her sister Jackie Martin and her niece, Chantelle Martin. These ladies all inherited their creative spirit from Eileen and Jackie’s mother, Catherine. From the time they were youngsters, she taught them to sew, embroider and do all sorts of crafts. Jackie was very accomplished in knitting, crocheting and needlepoint, while Eileen has done candle making, decorative painting, soft sculptures and oil painting. Their first thought when they see something is “Oh, I bet I could MAKE that”! Beading has taken this fascination with creating things to new heights. Chantelle started to bead with her aunt last January and has created some truly unique pieces. Jackie was stung by the beading bee last July and has already mastered several weaving stitches and has completed a number of beautiful necklaces. In the worst turn of events she’s ever experienced, Eileen lost her husband to brain cancer last January. Then, she lost her job of over 10 years. She really didn’t know what to do or where to turn when the opportunity for The Bead Hive presented itself. She talked to Jackie and Chantelle and they decided to go for it. Eileen says “We know that everything is a journey and we have taken but a few footsteps on the beaded path! It will be a wonderful, creative adventure and we are anxious and excited about taking it to the next level with the store. Since the first time I picked up a bead and ran a needle through it, I knew that I wanted to do something with beading that would allow me to earn a living. Since we started a little late to ever be a world renowned bead teachers or designers, opening a store was our dream. The Bead Hive is truly a dream come true. My only regret is that my wonderful husband, Bob, is not here to share it with us, but I know he is watching over us and is with us in spirit. We all plan on putting everything we have into this dream and making The Bead Hive the best darned bead store around!” |
